AI - Modern day drugs

I remember being excited hearing about this mystical “Aritifical Intelligence”. And 6 years later it has done irreparable damage to the software engineering field

i am sick and tired of seeing those purple-blueish themed websites with emojis and frosted elements.

Why a easy entry is a red flag

i remember reading in a book about how to choose a field to develop your business. the author talked about Entry which said that the harder it is to get into a field, the more leverage it has… if everyone can do it, theres no need. if not everyone can do it, everyone needs it.

and it had been the case for software engineering from the very start, if you ever wanted to code something before AI, you would go and buy a udemy course or something, by this i mean that you had to put a significant amount of effort cognitively and carve a chunk of time from your day to practice. This essentially lead to software engineering becoming a hard to enter field, which meant people in software-engineering usually knew what they were doing.

It has become a dumpster fire

But now? every random person can just open chatgpt and start making something. Initially to everyone it seemed a great thing that any person from any background can build and ship things, But from what i had read in books, it seemed like the start of a downfall to me, and it turned out i was right.

3-4 months ago, i was interviewing a person, and the person proudly had added the CSE Degree. And honestly i don’t even consider degrees as a quantifiable metric long before AI even existed, and long story short, after the 1 month period where the person had to show what they had they built, i found the same AI-slop.

Nowadays finding a good software engineer has shifted to finding a person with good reasoning, ability to ask questions because programming itself isnt a hard subject now, what is hard is finding people that are capable enough to do programming with a good understanding of what the hell they are even doing.
